Hooked is built to work without you. That is not a slogan: the app has no account, no sign-up and no server your measurements go to. Everything happens on the device in your hand. This document sets out what that means in practice, and where the few exceptions sit.

Who is responsible

What stays on your device

The app stores three things in your phone's storage, and nowhere else: your settings (language, units, reference), the measurements you save to your box, and whether you have bought Pro. Those are numbers and preferences. There is no name, email address, location or identifier in them.

Delete the app and it goes with it. There is also a Delete everything button in the settings that does the same without removing the app.

Photos

To measure, you take a photo or pick one from your gallery. That photo is processed on the device and does not leave it. The app does not keep it either: what ends up in your box are the millimetres, not the image. A photo you took yourself of course stays in your own gallery like any other — the app has no say over that.

The app asks permission for the camera and your photo library. It uses that permission only at the moment you press the button yourself.

A word about your reference

The app measures against a card of bank-card format. That format is standardised (ISO/IEC 7810); the card itself is not. A library card, a loyalty card, a membership card or an expired bank card measures exactly the same.

So rather not a valid bank card. Not because we do anything with it — that photo never leaves your device and we never see it — but because the image stays in your own photo gallery afterwards, carrying the card number and your name. If that gallery syncs to a cloud service, it goes along. If it has to be a bank card, cover the middle: the measurement uses only the four corners.

What could leave, and only if you ask it to

You can choose to contribute a measurement to the brand tables so the figures there get sharper. If you do, only the numbers travel: the gape in millimetres, and the brand and size you note alongside it. Never the photo, never a device identifier, never anything from which it could be inferred that it was you. Contribute nothing and nothing travels — that is the default state.

What we do not do

No tracking, no advertising identifier, no third-party analytics in the app, no profiles, no sale or transfer of data to anyone. There is no login, so there is no password to leak.

The stores

Buying Pro goes through Apple or Google. They process the payment and their own privacy terms apply to it; all we hear from them is that a purchase happened, not by whom. Both stores also keep their own statistics on downloads and crashes, over which we have no influence.

This website

These pages sit on a server in Europe and use no cookies for tracking visitors. There is no ad network on them, and the fonts and images come from the same server — so nothing is fetched from third parties while you read.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure and objection. In practice that is simple here: we hold nothing of yours. What exists sits on your own device and you erase it yourself with one button. If you nonetheless believe something of yours is being processed, write to info@nonius.be; you may also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority.

Children

The app is not aimed at children and deliberately collects data from nobody, them included.

Changes

If anything material changes about how the app handles data, this text changes with it and the date at the top moves. Significant changes are announced in the app itself.
